Equality Duty
Webster Primary School is a fully inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child. Our school is a diverse, safe and happy place to learn. We strive to ensure that all members of the school community contribute to a caring and a welcoming environment where our pupils are nurtured as individuals. We believe that every individual has the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
All our pupils are treated fairly and equally and have equal rights to access all curriculum areas. We tackle any issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups. In accordance with our Vision Statement we pledge to respect the human rights of our pupils and to educate them about equality, to respect difference and to prepare them for the diverse world we live in.
Equality is integrated into everyday school life and is inherent in most things we do as a matter of course. We respect the equality rights of our staff and members of the wider school community. Webster Primary School is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all.
You can find information on this page about how our school complies with the law and how it complies with its duties under the Equality Act 2010.
Equality Duty Overview
Equality Policy & Guidance
Our Current Equality Objectives 2026 - 2029
Objective 1
Train all members of staff involved in recruitment and selection on equal opportunities and non-discrimination.
Training evaluation data will show that 100% of those attending have a good understanding of the legal requirements.
Why we have chosen this objective and relevance to the general equality duty:
To ensure there is transparency in recruitment processes (both internal and external) so that staff with protected characteristics are shortlisted and interviewed, especially for teaching and leadership posts.
Objective 2
Ensure that every child understands that sex is not a barrier to ambition, achievement, employment and a career in any field.
Why we have chosen this objective and relevance to the general equality duty:
To improve opportunities for girls and women to access successful education, training, employment and careers.
To challenge misconceptions and stereotypes and improve our pupils’ access to role models from a range of employment fields and their knowledge of career paths and opportunities.
Objective 3
To increase pupils’ awareness of disability equality; amongst their own school peers and community as well as in wider society.
Why we have chosen this objective and relevance to the general equality duty:
To change perceptions and combat ignorance, stereotyping, negative perceptions and marginalisation of people with disabilities.
